My Mindful Birth

Midwifery care, Homebirth, Lactation Support, and women’s Health

Why homebirth?

Homebirth is simply about giving birth to your baby in the comfort of your own home, supported by people whom you know and trust, who make you feel safe and supported. It is about letting go of your fears and getting uninhibited to allow this physiologic process to unfold. Homebirth is about having an undisturbed birth, free of unnecessary restrictions or interventions, free to move and use any position that feels right to you. Homebirth is about celebrating a new life and creating long lasting memories as a family.

For women with normal, low-risk pregnancies, research shows that a planned home birth with a licensed midwife is as safe as a hospital birth. In fact, recent studies show that women under the care of CNMs have substantially lower rates of intervention, including lower rates of epidural, episiotomy, vacuum extraction, forceps-assisted delivery and cesarean sections. Throughout a woman’s pregnancy her midwife evaluates a woman’s well-being and determines if home birth is right for her. During labor, the midwife monitors both the mother and her baby closely and respond promptly to any deviations from normal. With careful attention, many complications can be avoided. Of course, birth is dynamic and complications can arise without warning. For this reason, midwives maintain training in CPR and Neonatal Resuscitation (NRP), as well as other skills to manage out-of-hospital complications should any arise.
