Choosing the righ provider
One of the most important decisions you must make during your pregnancy is choosing the right provider, one who shares your philosophy about birth. To help you with this process, we offer a free consultation to give you an opportunity to feel if we are a good fit for each other.
What to expect during your prenatal visits
With each prenatal visit, we focus not only on your well-being but also on preparing you for a home birth. The first visit is usually about an hour to an hour and a half long, Subsequent visits are usually about an hour long. During the initial visit, we review some forms and consent, review your health history and draw labs and other tests if indicated, and of course, listen to your baby’s heart rate. Once that is done, we formulate a plan specific for you to have a healthy pregnancy, birth and breastfeeding journey.
Labs and ultrasounds
As a convenience to our clients, your midwife will draw labs if indicated during the visit and will drop the specimens to the labs for processing. Ultrasounds are referred out.

What emergency equipment do we bring with us?
We are often asked this question and we are happy to demonstrate the high level of preparedness for an out-of-hospital birth. So, what do we bring at each delivery? Literally, we bring about the same emergency equipment that is available on a hospital maternity ward or birthing center and because we never know when we are called to a delivery, we carry our equipment with us at all time.
We mostly use herbal tinctures, essential oils and homeopathy but should these remedies not be sufficient, we also carry most medications commonly used on a maternity ward such as Oxygen, IV fluids, different medications including antibiotics and medications if mom is bleeding, equipment to draw blood if needed, sutures, instruments, and Lidocaine for repairs, urinary catheters, speculum, gloves, disinfectant, bulb syringes, cord clamps, amnio hooks, flashlight. We also bring an electric heating pad to warm up bath towels for mom and baby, a rebozo, , a peanut ball and TENS.
How are complications handled?
When honoring the physiologic birth process, complications rarely arise and may require your midwife to intervene or recommend transferring to a higher level of care. Our midwife maintains her midwifery credentials by staying current with her midwifery certification, Basic Life Support (formerly known as CPR), and the Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP). Additionally, she attended the Birth Emergency Skills Training (BEST) program several times over the years. Our midwife’s vigilant attention, vast knowledge, and broad experience will ensure that you and your baby are safe under her care.
